27% of young Black people are unemployed in the UK compared to 10% of young White people. 20/20 Levels was founded in 2013 to address this gap.

The charity provides young people from Black and other ethnic minority backgrounds who are at risk of being or are unemployed with mentoring and workshops. These give participants the professional and social skills to find long-term employment. The charity also provides professional and financial support to budding entrepreneurs, helping them establish their own businesses.

How we support 20/20 Levels

To date, we’ve provided 20/20 Levels with just under £290,000 in funding. Our development grants have supported them with developing their marketing strategy, including creating a promotional video. In addition, we’ve helped them increase their organisational capacity by part-funding the salary for a new COO position.

We’ve also connected 20/20 Levels to an incredible £1,015,000 in further funding from other trusts and foundations in our network. This has been pivotal in vastly increasing their turnover. Alongside this, we facilitated 52 hours of volunteering through our connections, with American Express employees mentoring the young people 20/20 Levels help.

The difference our support has made
  • Before 2022, 20/20 Levels was supporting approximately 100 young people each year. After three years of being part of The Firefly Project, this has grown fourfold to 446, with 160 volunteers providing mentoring and professional development opportunities. In 2024, the charity provided an amazing 6,231 hours of sessions.
  • 20/20 Levels’ turnover has increased by a staggering 172% to just over £550,000 while on The Firefly Project.
