Around 34,000 offences committed by children were recorded in the UK in 2022/23, of which 3,400 were knife crimes. Both perpetrators and victims of violent youth crime are disproportionately from ethnic minorities and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Violence Intervention Project, established in 2017, works with young people aged 12-25 in West London who are involved in or at risk of serious youth violence. They use a therapeutic approach to encourage young people out of violence and into living healthy and safe lives.

How we support The Violence Intervention Project

At the early stages of our partnership with The Violence Intervention Project, we’ve already provided them with almost £130,000 in funding.

Alongside £50,000 of unrestricted funding, we’ve given the charity just under £80,000 in development grants. This has allowed them to hire a new director of delivery and operations. This will prove pivotal to increasing the capacity and operations of the team, allowing them to support even more young people at risk of violence.

We’ve also used our network to provide The Violence Intervention Project with pro bono support, and facilitated a connection between The Violence Intervention Project and The Centre for Social Justice.

The difference our support will make

As of 2024, The Violence Intervention Project supports 116 young people a year across four West London boroughs, providing over 2,700 hours of intervention. We hope that throughout our partnership, the Project will scale its operations to reach even more young people across London.
