Around 34,000 offences committed by children were recorded in the UK in 2022/23, of which 3,400 were knife crimes. Both perpetrators and victims of violent youth crime are disproportionately from ethnic minorities and economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
The Violence Intervention Project, established in 2017, works with young people aged 12-25 in West London who are involved in or at risk of serious youth violence. They use a therapeutic approach to encourage young people out of violence and into living healthy and safe lives.
